Dr. Mathews holds a Ph.D. in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce, an M.A. in Psychology from Midwestern State University, and a B.S. in Psychology from Brigham Young University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Approved Supervisor in Texas, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Supervisor in North Carolina, a Certified Humanistic Sandtray Therapist, and a Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Group Therapist.

Dr. Mathews has 18 years of experience as a counselor, supervisor, consultant, and educator in community agencies, criminal justice settings, and hospitals.

In 2020, Dr. Mathews joined the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Development (CED).
